JSEA: Japan Ship Exporters' Association
The Japan Ship Exporters Association (JSEA) was founded in 1954 according to the Japanese Export and Import Trade Law, to promote the export of ships and ship machinery. Membership of the organisation is open to companies engaged in the exporting of ships and ship machinery. The principal activities at JSEA are:
- Promotion of ship exports
- Market Survery
- Public Relations
- Handling of Trade Insurance

CAJS: Cooperative Association of Japan Shipbuilders
The Cooperative Association of Japan Shipbuilders was established in 1959 to assist small and medium sized shipbuilding companies cooperate with each other, thus encouraging modernisation and allowing member companies to confront the challenges of tackling the export market.
The Association carries out surveys of the industry, with the intention of evaluating the needs of individual countries and promoting international cooperation. It also studies how new technological innovation can be applied to smaller vessels, and compiles these findings into guidelines and advisory reports for it's member companies.

JSMEA: Japanese Marine Equipment Association
The Japanese Marine Equipment Association (JSMEA), which was established in 1966, born from a merger of two smaller trade associations, promotes the development of ship machinery and ship related industries.
Since then the association has devoted its energies to furthering ship and marine equipment technologies and promoting fair and open business practices within the industry. The activities of JSMEA can be split into main areas as outlined below:
Research concerning business strategy:
- Rationalisation of production and promoting the adoption of new technologies.
- Advocating the importance of ship machinery standardisation.
- Collecting data and compiling statistics on the domestic industry.
Promoting internationalisation within the industry:
- Participation at international maritime exhibitions.
- Sponsorship of overseas seminars on ship machinery technology.
- Research on overseas markets, and importation of machinery parts from abroad.

SAJ: Shipbuilders' Association of Japan
The Shipbuilders' Association of Japan (SAJ) was established in 1947 in order to promote friendly relations amongst its members, and thus stimulate sustained development within the industry. Through its activities, the SAJ aims to contribute to the well-being of subsidiary industries and public welfare.

Maritime Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)
The Maritime Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (formerly the Ministry of Transport) focuses on developing shipping, shipbuilding and related industries, and is pushing forward the research and development of advanced ship technology.
It is also involved with the formulation of rules and regulations concerning ship safety, preventing marine pollution and conducting ship inspections and tonnage measurements. MLIT promotes international cooperation by attending the OECD Council Working Party on Shipbuilding and the Asia-Pacific Shipbuilding Expert Meeting (APSEM).

SOF: Ship and Ocean Foundation
The SOF is dedicated to the research and development of shipbuilding and marine technology, the exchange of information on maritime topics and a wide range of other ocean related activities. It is structured into the departments of "Research and Development of Shipbuilding Related Technology", "Ocean Policy Research" and "International Cooperation and Coordination".
As the name Ship and Ocean suggests, its activities include the preparation of proposals directed at the technological development and resolution of ship and ocean related issues. Furthermore, it also provides scholarships to the World Maritime University as a means of promoting better international cooperation.
